Villarreal hope for striking change

Mexican international striker Antonio De Nigris has joined Primera División side Villarreal CF on loan.

Mexico striker Antonio De Nigris has finally joined Primera División side Villarreal CF on loan until the end of the season.

Goalscoring form
The 24-year-old had looked set to sign on Friday before a late hitch prompted another round of negotiations with Mexican team CF Monterrey, who own De Nigris's registration. He has now completed the deal, with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

'A classic forward'
De Nigris had been on loan with another Mexican side, CF América, and Villarreal coach Benito Floro is well aware of his strengths, having previously coached the player at Monterrey. "He is a classic forward, [a] good header [of the ball]. We needed somebody to reinforce the other forwards in the team," he said.

Mid-table safety
Villarreal currently lie in 13th position in the league table, but have scored just 22 goals in 23 league games and face second-bottom side Rayo Vallecano this weekend.
