FCM Bacau have made three signings after FC Steaua Bucuresti released two players from their contracts.
Central defender Iulian Miu and left-back Valeriu Bordeanu have both joined Bacau after being allowed to leave Steaua, and Bacau made it a trio of signings by bringing FC Dinamo Bucuresti's right-sided midfield player Mugur Bolohan to the club on a six-month loan.
The move ends several months of uncertainty for the two former Steaua players who had been training with the army club's reserve team after refusing to sign new contracts with the club in the summer.
The 27-year-old Miu, who has played 150 games for Steaua and five for the Romanian national team, went on trial with FC Dinamo Kyiv during the winter, but the move broke down amid accusations from the player that Steaua were trying to ruin his career.
Yesterday, the player brought his father to training with him claiming that he was concerned that Steaua's president and major shareholder Gigi Becali planned to do him physical harm. "I'm frightened, because Gigi Becali threatened me. He told me things which I want to forget and not to speak about," said Miu. "He's a liar," responded Becali.
'We agreed to separate'
The club, meanwhile, had accused Miu of enjoying nightlife too much and scandalising Steaua's reputation, but an agreement has finally been reached to allow Miu to leave the club. "We reached an agreement," said Becali. "Recently we formed a new FC Steaua, with a new organisation, as a share company, so that we begin a totally new way. That's why we agreed to separate."
Off to Bacau
Becali asked Miu to swear that he would not play for Steaua's rivals Dinamo or FC Rapid Bucuresti, and Miu agreed, saying: "I will not play for those two teams, out of respect for Steaua's fans." The player has joined Steaua playing legend Ilie Dumitrescu, who is currently coach at Bacau.
He will also be joined there by his 26-year-old Steaua team-mate Bordeanu, who joins Bacau for the third time having made 70 top-flight appearances. Both clubs have agreed six-month contracts with the club, as has the vastly experienced Bolohan, who will join until the rest of the season on loan from Dinamo.
Despite having 195 top-flight appearances to his name, the 27-year-old Bolohan was relegated to the reserve team at Dinamo after refusing to sign a new contract in Bucharest. Bacau currently lie 15th in the Romanian table with 19 points from 15 games.
