Cypriot club Nea Salamis FC have unveiled Panicos Orphanides as their new coach.
Cypriot club Nea Salamis FC have unveiled Panicos Orphanides as their new coach following Georgi Vasiliev's resignation on Saturday.
'Inspire our players'
Nea Salamis president, Dr. Diofantos Chrysostomou, stated that the club and Orphanides had agreed personal and financial terms and that the 43-year-old former AEP Paphos FC coach will start his new job on Monday. "We wanted a talented coach who will be able to inspire our players in these difficult times for our club," Chrysostomou said. "He has signed a contract with us for two years"
'We will survive'
Chrysostomou was also quick to point out the risk that Orphanides was taking to guide the club away from the relegation zone. "It could be said that it is a risk for him to take over now but he has said that he believes in the club and the players," Chrysostomou added. "The road ahead is difficult but I believe we will survive this season."
Nea Salamis, who last won a league game in October 2002, are currently 12th in the 14-team Cypriot First Division and their latest defeat saw Bulgarian Vasiliev call time on his career at the Ammohostos stadium.
