Ten-man Aris Thessaloniki FC gained the psychological edge in their Greek Cup semi-final after earning a 1-1 first-leg draw at Egaleo FC.
Home side ahead
Egaleo had the better of the early stages and went ahead on seven minutes, when Nikos Nikolopulos ran on to a Thodoros Aggos through-ball and produced a shot that was saved by Aris goalkeeper Christos Labakis, only for Giannis Skopelitis to turn in the rebound.
Aris draw level
However, Aris held their nerve, and produced an equaliser 26 minutes from the end on the counterattack, as Joël Epale used his knee to turn in a Richard Knopper cross from the right. Aris were reduced to ten men four minutes later as Knopper was sent off for a second bookable offence, but his side held on for a draw.
The return will be on 23 April – the same day as the first-leg encounter in the other semi-final between AEK Athens FC and FC PAOK Thessaloniki.
