Sacchi quits Parma post

Arrigo Sacchi has announced that he will step down as Parma AC's technical director at the end of June.

Former AC Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi has announced that he will step down as Parma AC's technical director on 30 June.

Successful season
The 57-year-old Sacchi joined the club's board last year and enjoyed a successful season as Parma, coached by Cesare Prandelli, finished the season fifth in Serie A and qualified for the UEFA Cup. They did so despite selling players like Fabio Cannavaro and Marco Di Vaio and cutting 42.5 per cent of the money spent the previous season on players' salaries.

Advisory role
"I knew last January that I could no longer give 100 per cent of my time to the club," said Sacchi. "It's nothing to do with health problems. I will continue to work at the club but just in an advisory role. I will have sporadic contacts both with the board and the coach." Sacchi won the European Champion Clubs' Cup twice with Milan in 1989 and 1990, and led Italy to the FIFA World Cup final in 1994.
