Tames seals Dinamo delight

Iulian Tames scored the only goal as FC Dinamo Bucuresti secured their tenth Romanian Cup success with victory over city rivals FC National Bucuresti.

Sars in charge
With both sides looking to secure a place in next season's UEFA Cup following poor league finishes, Dinamo, playing in their fourth successive final, seemed the most committed side during the first half. French referee Alain Sars officiated the match at the National stadium in Bucharest in front of over 30,000 spectators.

Sensational volley
Dinamo dominated for long periods and had three golden opportunities to take the lead. However, National goalkeeper Bogdan Vintila was in inspired form on each occasion but could do nothing about Tames's sensational winning volley in the 30th minute.

Impressive Tudor
The second half was a different story. With nothing to lose, National, who last lifted the trophy in 1960, poured forward and were only denied a deserved equaliser by Daniel Tudor's heroics in the Dinamo goal. Sars then produced two red cards, one going to National's Adrian Olah for a foul on 61 minutes, and the other issued to Dinamo's Cosmin Barcauan for a second yellow card nine minutes later.

European qualification
Dinamo join FC Steaua Bucuresti in the UEFA Cup qualifying rounds, while champions FC Rapid Bucuresti will enter the UEFA Champions League at the first qualifying round stage.
