Switzerland round-up: Grasshoppers leaping for joy

Grasshopper-Club won the Swiss Nationalliga A title with a 4-2 victory against BSC Young Boys.

Grasshopper-Club won the Swiss Nationalliga A title with a 4-2 victory against BSC Young Boys.

Nuñez the hero
Last season's champions FC Basel finished runners-up, despite a 3-0 win against Neuchâtel Xamax FC. Richard Nuñez was the hero for Grasshoppers, scoring a superb hat-trick. He tricked Young Boys defender Harut Wardanyan to score the first in the 18th minute, before converting Mladen Petric's pass for his second 30 minutes later.

Chapuisat on target
Stéphane Chapuisat gave Young Boys hope just before the interval only for Swiss Under-21 international Marcus Schwegler to make it 3-1 three minutes into the second half. Johann Vonlanthen made it 3-2, but Nuñez was in unstoppable form and sealed the title with two minutes remaining.

Huggel double
Benjamin Huggel scored twice in Basel's victory over Xamax, participants in next season's UEFA Cup. He broke the deadlock after only ten minutes and added a second eight minutes before half-time. Julio Hernán Rossi sealed the victory for Basel within 60 seconds of the restart.

Five-star Zürich
Elsewhere, FC Zürich won 5-2 against Servette FC with Alhassan Keita completing a hat-trick with goals after 33, 38 and 90 minutes and Franco Di Jorio scoring twice. Meanwhile, FC Wil 1900 and FC Thun drew 2-2.
