Last-gasp Acosta gives Sevilla narrow advantage

A goal two minutes into added time from Argentinian midfielder Lautaro Acosta gave Sevilla FC a 2-1 win over fellow Liga side Athletic Club Bilbao in their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

An added-time goal from Lautaro Acosta gave Sevilla FC a 2-1 win over Athletic Club Bilbao in their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Llorente strike
The hosts had fallen behind just before the break, but two second-half efforts gave them a narrow advantage ahead of the decider. After a scrappy opening 30 minutes played in soaking wet conditions, the game burst into life when Sevilla midfielder Ndri Romaric headed Renato's corner against the crossbar. Renato then had a free-kick drift narrowly over before the visitors' Fernando Llorente unleased a long-range volley which Andrés Palop did well to tip over. Llorente did open the scoring soon after in the 43rd minute beating Palop to a David López corner and flicking his header into the far corner.

Late winner
Sevilla put Athletic on the back foot from the start of the second half and replied just after the hour mark. Argentinian midfielder Aldo Duscher got the telling touch, volleying in emphatically from close range after a goalmouth scramble. Both sides had opportunities to take the lead, with visiting goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz doing well to resist several Sevilla forays. However, even his defiance was ended two minutes into injury time when Acosta pounced on a half-blocked Duscher shot to slide the ball into the bottom corner.
