AEK Athens FC striker Demis Nikolaidis has signed for Club Atlético de Madrid.
The 29-year-old forward, who has scored 13 goals in 39 international appearances for Greece, passed a medical on Friday and has signed a one-year contract with the Spanish side. Nikolaidis joined AEK in 1996/97 from Apollon Athens FC, and went on to score 125 goals in 189 games for the club.
Van Hooijdonk signs
Meanwhile, Dutch striker Pierre van Hooijdonk completed his move to Turkish Super League side Fenerbahçe SK on Sunday, signing a two-year contract. "I will do my utmost to be successful here in Istanbul," said Van Hoojidonk. "I am glad everything has been finalised today. I will meet my team-mates on Monday in Germany."
Olympiakos Nicosia FC, have stepped up their preparations for the new Cypriot first division season by signing German international Paulo Rink and Slovenian international Miran Pavlin. Olympiakos finished in fourth place in Cyprus last season, but the subsequent European campaign was short-lived as Slovakian side FK ZTS Dubnica earned a 7-1 aggregate victory in the first round of the UEFA Interoto Cup.
Pavlin joins from Portuguese side FC Porto, having spent last season on loan in Turkey with Samsunspor and with NK Olimipija Ljubljana in Slovenia. The 32-year-old midfield player, who has scored five goals in 57 international appearances, has signed a three-year contract with Olympiakos, joining fellow Slovenian internationals Marco Simeunovic and Sasa Gajser at the Cypriot club.
Rink, who has won 13 caps for Germany, qualifying through his grandparents after moving to Europe from his native Brazil, has signed a one-year deal. The 30-year-old striker enjoyed a successful spell with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, also appearing for FC Energie Cottbus and 1. FC Nürnberg.
