Serie A strugglers Calcio Catania have dismissed coach Gianluca Atzori in the wake of their 3-2 loss at AC Siena, replacing him with former Bologna FC trainer Siniša Mihajlović.
Appointed in the summer, the 38-year-old Atzori led Catania for 15 top-flight games, but Sunday's defeat left the club joint bottom of the Serie A standings alongside Siena on just nine points. The Etnei have put their faith in Mihajlović, 40, the Serbian having started his coaching career as Roberto Mancini's assistant at FC Internazionale Milano between 2006 and 2008 before a stint at Bologna last season. "Catania want to thank Atzori for his work and commitment and wish him all the best in the future," said a statement on the club's website. Mihajlović played over 300 games for AS Roma, UC Sampdoria, S.S. Lazio and Inter between 1992 and 2006.
