Hibernians FC's Adrian Mifsud has been voted the island's Footballer of the Year after the prolific forward's 27 goals helped guide his team to the Maltese Premier League title last season.
Champions League test
Birkirkara FC utility man William Camenzuli came second and Mifsud's team-mate and goalkeeper Mario Muscat was third. "I have worked hard towards this target, which is the maximum for a Maltese player," said Mifsud, who is already looking forward to Hibernians' UEFA Champions League qualifying games against the Republic of Ireland's Shelbourne FC.
'Foreign club interest'
"To play in the UEFA Champions League is also another dream come true," he continued. "It is perhaps one of the few chances we have to advertise Maltese talent. I am also keen to help Hibernians overcome the first hurdle like Valletta FC did a few years back. I am also hoping to attract the interest of a foreign club and to cement my place in the national team."
