Third spell
The 42-year-old said he made the decision because of his close connection with Giannina, who parted company with Vassilis Papachristou earlier this week. It will be Anastopoulos's third spell in charge of the club after acting as coach from September 1998 to May 1999 and between February and March in 2001.
'Emotional attachment'
"My relationship with the people of Kallithea was excellent," said Anastopoulos. "The reason I am leaving has to do with my emotional attachment to Giannina." He will have a difficult task as Giannina are bottom of the table in Greece, after the deduction of 12 points because of unpaid money to former players.
New man needed
Kallithea president Nikos Salevris was disappointed to lose his coach. He said: "We leave it to the public to judge the behaviour of Nikos Anastopoulos." It is not yet known who will replace Anastopoulos, although the club will hope to have a new man in place before the weekend trip to Aris Thessaloniki FC.
