New faces at Sparta

AC Sparta Praha have started planning their Czech title defence for 2003/04 with two new signings.

AC Sparta Praha have started planning their title defence for 2003/04 by signing Karlsruher SC midfield player Patrik Jezek and SK Sigma Olomouc defender Radoslav Kovác.

Austrian trauma
The 26-year-old Jezek left Austrian side FC Tirol Innsbruck last summer after the club was declared bankrupt before signing a one-year deal with German second division side Karlsruher. His contract at the club is now finished and, having won the Austrian title three times during his career in Europe, has decided to return to his home country after a six-year absence.

Young prospect
Meanwhile, Sparta were quick to agree a deal with 23-year-old Kovác, a member of the Czech Republic's successful 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Championship side and regarded as one of the finest defensive prospects in the country. Kovác arrives at the Letná stadium as a possible replacement for established defender Zdenek Grygera who has received a number of offers to join clubs outside the Czech Republic.
