Kenny pays the price

Bohemian FC have sacked manager Stephen Kenny following the Irish side's exit from the UEFA Cup.

European exit
Bohemians, who were champions and runners-up in the Irish Premier Division in Kenny's two full seasons in charge since his December 2001 appointment, lost 3-1 at home to Estonia's FC Levadia Tallinn last night, having drawn the first leg 0-0. Consequently, they became the first team to be eliminated from the competition.

Club statement
A statement from the Dublin club read: "Following a meeting today with Stephen Kenny, it is with regret that Bohemian Football Club announces the termination of his contract. We wish to thank Stephen for his services over the past number of years, and wish him every success in the future."

'Bitterly disappointed'
Kenny said: "I am bitterly disappointed. We are third in the league at the minute, we have a League Cup final coming up in a few weeks. These are things I will not be involved in. The club made a decision and ultimately we did not do the business in Europe, where we were hopeful of doing well."
