VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach have strengthened their back line with the signing of Brazilian defender Dante Bonfim from UEFA Cup contenders R. Standard de Liège for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old has agreed a deal which will keep him at the Bundesliga's bottom club until summer 2013. Dante has started 15 Eerste Klasse games this season and missed just one last term as Standard claimed the Belgian title. Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl said: "Dante played a huge part as a centre-back in Standard's great 2007/08 campaign. Although he has recently been deployed as a left-back, we would like to see him in the heart of the defence."
