There were contrasting fortunes for Italy's UEFA Champions League contenders, as AC Milan returned to winning ways but FC Internazionale Milano and SSC Napoli lost to Calcio Catania and Parma FC respectively.

Milan are up to 11th place in Serie A after a fine display of attacking football against US Città di Palermo. Zlatan Ibrahimović helped set up the opening goal when he picked out Alberto Aquilani, whose far-post header enabled Antonio Nocerino to score his first goal in Rossoneri colours (39) against his former club. The Swedish international then played in Robinho with a reverse pass the Brazilian dinked past Alexandros Tzorvas (55). Antonio Cassano (63) then finished off a fine cutback by Ignazio Abate.

Earlier in the evening, Inter slumped to their fourth – and second successive – reverse of the season. Despite taking the lead in Catania, through Esteban Cambiasso in the sixth minute, Claudio Ranieri's side conceded twice in the opening five minutes of the second period. Sergio Almirón equalised (46) before Francesco Lodi (50) converted a penalty to leave the Nerazzurri in 17th place on just four points from six games.

Napoli would have gone top with a home victory but remain fourth after suffering their second league loss of the season against Parma FC. Francesco Modesto (82) scored the winner after Giuseppe Mascara (76) had cancelled out Massimo Gobbi's opener (57).
