FC Shakhtar Donetsk have completed the domestic double for the third successive season after easing to a 3-0 victory over FC Chornomorets Odesa in the Ukrainian Cup final.

Mircea Lucescu's side were always overwhelming favourites but had to wait until five minutes before half-time to make the breakthrough through Fernandinho. Second-half strikes from Alex Teixeira and Taison sealed a win that was never really in doubt as Shakhtar further cemented their dominance in Ukraine.

Having captured their fourth league title in a row in April, the Pitmen have now managed three consecutive cup wins though Chornomorets, seventh in the Premier-Liha, began brightly in Kharkiv. For the first 30 minutes there was little to choose between the teams, but thereafter Shakhtar imposed their tempo and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Teixeira missed good chances.

Fernandinho was more clinical as he broke the deadlock, and eight minutes after the restart Mkhitaryan and Alex Teixeira made amends for their earlier profligacy as they combined for the latter to make it 2-0. Mkhitaryan hit the bar and with 16 minutes remaining Taison, returning to the city where he made his name at FC Metalist Kharkiv, sealed it.

"The way we won the cup should make everyone happy, myself included," said Lucescu. "We all really wanted this trophy. It was what I asked the team for after elimination from the UEFA Champions League [by Borussia Dortmund in March]."
