FC Bayern München maintained their one-point lead over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga after both sides secured home wins, while FC Schalke 04 left it late at TSV Eintracht Braunschweig.

Aiming to retake the lead from Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who went two points clear beating TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 2-1 on Friday night, Bayern trailed 1-0 at half-time at home to 1. FSV Mainz 05 but went on to triumph 4-1 through two second-half Thomas Müller goals as well as one apiece for Mario Mandžukić and Arjen Robben for Josep Guardiola's unbeaten side.

A fourth-minute Marco Reus penalty was enough for Dortmund at home to Hannover to move back level with Leverkusen but it was far from straightforward for Schalke at bottom-club Braunschweig. The UEFA Champions League outfit twice trailed before Roman Neustädter struck in added time to clinch their second away win of the campaign.

Elsewhere, 1. FC Nürnberg remain winless after drawing at Eintracht Frankfurt and there were no goals in the game between SV Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg. Hertha BSC Berlin climbed above opponents VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach into fourth with a narrow win in the day's late game. Gladbach had Martin Stranzl dismissed late on and remain without a victory on the road this term.
