The death of Udo Lattek was announced today. Among 14 major titles, Lattek won the 1973/74 European Champion Clubs' Cup with FC Bayern München, the 1978/79 UEFA Cup with VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and the 1981/82 European Cup Winners' Cup with FC Barcelona. We round up some of the tributes paid to him.

Michel Platini, UEFA President
On behalf of the European football family, and in particular our coaching fraternity, I would like to express my deepest condolences following the passing of Udo Lattek. He made his own mark on European football by coaching teams to win the three UEFA club competitions with three different teams, a feat that has never been matched.

Wolfgang Niersbach, German Football Association (DFB) president
Udo Lattek was not only the most successful coach in Bundesliga history, but also an outstanding personality in German football. In 2012 the DFB honoured him with a lifetime achievement award, because he decisively shaped football for decades. His championships and titles will remain in our memory like his direct, but always adorable manner. Udo Lattek already was a legend during his lifetime, we will miss him.

Pep Guardiola, Bayern & former Barcelona coach
Udo Lattek was an outstanding football coach and a big personality. As a coach of FC Barcelona he left very strong footprints.

Stephan Schippers, Mönchengladbach general manager
The news of Udo Lattek‘s death has struck us profoundly. With Udo Lattek the football loses one of its most successful German coaches and a big personality. His name his indelibly linked with Borussia’s successes in the late 1970s. Our condolences go out to his relatives.
