Sweden awarded default win

The UEFA Appeals Body has partially upheld the Danish Football Association's (DBU) appeal against decisions taken in relation to the abandoned UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier against Sweden in Copenhagen on 2 June.

The Appeals Body replaced the original verdict of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body (click here) and its decision is final: Sweden have been awarded a 3-0 win by default; the DBU has been fined CHF50,000 (€30,222); and the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen will be closed for four official competition matches involving the senior national team. From this third sanction, two games are deferred for a probationary period of two years. The world governing body FIFA will be notified about the deferred sanction and the period of probation.

140km distance
The Appeals Body also ordered that the official competition matches concerned, in which the DBU are hosts, must be played in a stadium at a distance of at least 140km from Copenhagen (as the crow flies). Denmark midfielder Christian Poulsen, who was sent off in the Sweden game, is suspended for three UEFA competition matches at national-team level. Given that the player did not take part in Denmark's game with Latvia on 6 June, the remaining two-match suspension applies to Denmark's UEFA EURO 2008™ fixture in Sweden on 8 September and the home game against Liechtenstein four days later.
