Forlán accepts Atlético offer

Uruguay forward Diego Forlán has agreed to move from Villarreal CF to Club Atlético de Madrid in a four-year deal worth somewhere in the region of €21m.

High goal tally
According to both Primera División clubs the 28-year-old Uruguayan international, currently in Venezuela for the Copa América, has agreed to move to the Spanish capital after four successful years in Castellón. Despite enduring a frustrating three and a half seasons at Manchester United FC the striker soon found his feet after moving to Villarreal in 2004, winning both Spain's top scoring award with 25 goals and the ESM Golden Boot together with Thierry Henry in the 2004/05 season.

European progress
The following year Forlán helped his side reach the UEFA Champions League semi-final while in season 2006/07 his 19 league goals propelled them towards a fifth place finish in Spain's top flight that secured their participation in next season's UEFA Cup. In total the former AC Independiente striker managed a 54 goals in 105 Spanish league games. His move to the Spanish capital will also further fuel speculation that Atlético striker Fernando Torres will complete a move to Liverpool FC in the near future.
