Real Madrid CF have continued their end-of-season transfer activity by signing the left-sided attacker José Callejón from RCD Espanyol for a fee reported to be in the region of €5m.

A product of Madrid's youth system, the 24-year-old has signed a five-year deal and follows Turkish internationals Hamit Altıntop and Nuri Şahin to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Callejón left Madrid in 2008 and has since emerged as one of Spain's leading talents, scoring ten times in 97 league appearances for Espanyol over the past three seasons.

José Mourinho's side – runners-up to Spanish title winners FC Barcelona  – will begin next season's UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
