UEFA launches Skopje probe

UEFA has instigated disciplinary proceedings against the Macedonian Football Union.

UEFA is to instigate disciplinary proceedings against the Macedonian Football Union following reports of racist abuse directed by Macedonian supporters at England players during the UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying match between F.Y.R. Macedonia and England in Skopje on Saturday.

Delegate's report
UEFA said it had decided to instigate disciplinary proceedings even before it received an official complaint from the Football Association, as the racist abuse had been reported by the UEFA match delegate.

Further evidence
"We will be looking at further evidence including players' statements and video recordings," said UEFA communications and public affairs director Mike Lee. The case will be dealt with on a date later than 11 September, when the next meeting of UEFA's control and disciplinary body takes place.
