UEFA to probe Armenia claims

UEFA has started to look into allegations of match-fixing relating to the match between Armenia and Greece.

Claims investigated
The inspector will investigate claims made by Ruben Hayrapetyan, president of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), to the UEFA match delegate that approaches were made to Armenia to fix the game in favour of Greece.

All aspects considered
UEFA's director of communications and public affairs, Mike Lee, said: "UEFA has today appointed a disciplinary inspector to investigate allegations that have been made regarding the EURO 2004 qualifying match between Armenia and Greece. The inspector has been asked to look at all aspects of the allegations including the way in which the allegations were made.

Report due
"Once the inspection is complete, UEFA will decide what if any future steps are needed." The inspector has been asked to report back ahead of the final series of qualifying matches on 11 October.
