Güneş frustrated as Trabzonspor let CSKA off the hook

Şenol Güneş was left to rue Trabzonspor AŞ's lack of application and experience after failing to capitalise on Seydou Doumbia's 74th-minute dismissal for PFC CSKA Moskva, drawing 0-0.

We hoped to get four points from these two games but we have been forced to settle for one and the head-to-head advantage is with CSKA. After they were reduced to ten men, our attacking power diminished too. From time to time we had chances, but we need to learn how to take the lead in those situations. CSKA had more experience and used it well. Their controlled play broke up our game and we couldn't marry our ambition with intelligence.

When Doumbia was dismissed our players entered into a comfort zone, while CSKA became more resistant and were dangerous on the break. We had to attack more, to be more creative. We couldn't pass the ball well. When you play like we did, there's little chance of winning a Champions League match.

Still, [four games in and] we have only lost once and have five points. We could have earned more but there's no need to be unfair. There are no guarantees in football. In Russia, we lost 3-0 to CSKA in a game we would normally have won; in Trabzon, they started better but couldn't score.

We are trying to do all we can. Every team in this group is a contender: even Inter have no guarantees. We would like to defeat Inter here but we don't want to lose either. At worst we want to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

Leonid Slutski, CSKA Moskva coach
We were in control of the game until Doumbia got sent off. We were creating regular chances and had two clear-cut opportunities that Doumbia unfortunately failed to convert in the first half. Obviously it was more difficult for us to play with ten men at the end.

But the hosts did not cause us any trouble at all except for their chance from a set piece in the third minute of added time [when Ondřej Čelůstka headed against the post]. Even with we were down to ten men we looked most likely to open the scoring. It was very annoying not to win, and also to lose Doumbia [through suspension] for the Lille game.
