Sweden moved into a position of strength in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 2 following a single-goal win in Finland.

Captain Jiloah Hamad headed the only goal in Valkeakoski eight minutes before half-time. As a result of their third victory in four matches, Sweden have moved level on points with Slovenia at the top of the group but, significantly, boast a game in hand on their rivals.

Hamad's powerful header from Erdin Demir's left-wing cross was the only effort of note in the first half. After the break it was a different matter, though, as Mikko Sumusalo rattled the crossbar with a long-range strike and, with the hosts pushing for an equaliser, Timi Lahti shot just over from close range following a corner.
