Jordan Rhodes scored a hat-trick as Scotland emphatically inflicted a third successive UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 10 defeat on Luxembourg.

Rhodes's first came five minutes after Alex McDonald set the visitors, who drew their opening fixture 0-0 against Bulgaria, on their way with a shot from outside the penalty area just before the half-hour mark.

Huddersfield Town FC striker Rhodes struck his second and the visitors' third two minutes before half-time following a ball into his path by Liam Palmer, and completed his treble after the hour with a header from a Gregg Wylde delivery.

A 20-metre drive by substitute Goncalo Almeida was nothing more than consolation for Reinhold Breu's team, who conceded again two minutes from time when Paul Hanlon nodded in David Wotherspoon's free-kick.
