Rahn withdrawal benefits Ziege

Germany have called up Christian Ziege to replace the injured Christian Rahn in their UEFA EURO 2004™ squad.

Thigh injury
Hamburger SV defender Rahn, 24, has had to withdraw from Rudi Völler's initial 22-man selection with a thigh injury. The 32-year-old Ziege, who is currently without a club after being released by Tottenham Hotspur FC, won the last of his 71 caps in Germany's 2-0 defeat by Brazil in the 2002 FIFA World Cup final.

One place left
Völler will add a 23rd player to his list before the 2 June deadline. The leading contenders for the final berth appear to be 18-year-old 1. FC Köln forward Lukas Podolski and FC Bayern München's 19-year-old midfield player Bastian Schweinsteiger.
