FC Dynamo Kyiv came from behind to secure a narrow UEFA Champions League third qualifying round first-leg lead thanks to Ideye Brown's fifth goal in four matches this season.

Ruben Schaken opened the scoring for the visitors four minutes after the break, but Dynamo levelled before the hour when Lex Immers put through his own net. The lively Brown then continued his impressive run of form – he has scored the winning goal in every Dynamo game so far this term – to give the hosts a slender advantage heading into next week's return in Rotterdam.

Yuri Semin's charges controlled the opening exchanges and fashioned the first chance through Andriy Yarmolenko but his shot, which took a deflection off Stefan de Vrij, was turned round a post by Erwin Mulder. The Ukrainian side continued to dominate possession, but the visitors grew into the contest and came close through full-back Daryl Janmaat, before Sekou Cissé's effort midway through the first half was kept out by Maxym Koval.

Taras Mikhalik then headed over the bar from Yarmolenko's fine pass for Dynamo but neither side had any cutting edge until the second half. Buoyed by Ronald Koeman's words at half-time, Feyenoord hit Dynamo on the counterattack on 49 minutes and took the lead when Schaken expertly converted Immers's cross.

Semin's decision to bring on forward Artem Milevskiy in place of defensive midfielder Ognjen Vukojević proved to be a wise one. Dynamo posed a greater attacking threat and came close through Miloš Ninković, Betão and Yarmolenko before they drew level when Mulder's attempted clearance went into his own net off the back of Immers.

The hosts continued to attack and were rewarded when the prolific Brown headed in Oleh Gusev's 69th-minute cross. The margin of victory could have been greater but Brown rattled the crossbar and missed two fantastic opportunities late on.
