Goals in either half from Valeri Kazaishvili and Jambul Jigauri prevented a third straight defeat for Georgia in Group 3 as Scotland's 100% start to UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying ended.

The visitors would have moved level with section leaders the Netherlands on nine points with a win, but their hopes took a blow on 39 minutes as Kazaishvili put the hosts ahead. Jigauri doubled the lead before Giorgi Chanturia's missed penalty raised Scotland hopes, but Billy Stark's men could only pull one back through Lewis McLeod.

The visitors started full of confidence and came within a whisker of opening the scoring eight minutes in as Dylan McGeouch struck the crossbar after Stuart Armstrong's initial effort was kept out by goalkeeper Giorgi Nadiradze. However, it was the hosts who took the lead when Vitesse midfielder Kazaishvili slalomed through from halfway and drove in from 20 metres. Scotland attempted to find a way back into the game but fell further behind on 70 minutes as Jigauri scored from the edge of the box after being set up by Kazaishvili.

A handball in the Scottish area seemed set to pile further misery on the visitors but Chanturia's penalty was kept out by Jordan Archer, and it was game on when McLeod scored another from range nine minutes from time. An equaliser proved elusive as Georgia held on.
