Manchester City FC midfielder Samir Nasri has been ruled out for eight weeks with medial knee ligament damage suffered in Sunday's 2-0 victory at Newcastle United FC.

Nasri was carried off on a stretcher with his left leg in a brace 11 minutes from time on Sunday following a tackle by Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and it was feared he could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. "I suppose it's kind of good news that I will be out around eight weeks," Nasri said on Twitter on Monday.

A lay-off of that length would rule the 26-year-old out of several league and cup fixtures and the first instalment of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against FC Barcelona. The second leg takes place on 12 March.
