Germany v Gibraltar, Scotland v Republic of Ireland (14 November)

Germany failed to win for the second successive game in Group D as John O'Shea scored deep into added time to snatch a point for the visitors on his 100th appearance for the Republic of Ireland.

Joachim Löw's side had had the bulk of the chances yet failed to find the net when losing in Poland on Saturday and it was more of the same during the first half as the Irish were unable to test Manuel Neuer themselves but nevertheless went in level. The closest the world champions came was with their first try as Erik Durm rattled the crossbar from 25 metres. Antonio Rüdiger then headed a presentable opportunity wide following a Toni Kroos free-kick before the Real Madrid CF man himself blasted over from outside the area.

Matthias Ginter crunched a header over before David Forde denied Julian Draxler from a tight angle. Germany cranked up the pressure after the restart and Forde needed to be at his finest to keep the Republic level. The Ireland No1 turned behind Lukas Podolski's turf-skimmer before Karim Bellarabi's angled smash was repelled. The goalkeeper saved his best for Kroos, who sent a dipping shot over his head but somehow the Millwall FC custodian tipped it over the bar as he fell backwards.

The goal looked destined never to arrive, yet with 19 minutes to play Kroos was permitted too much time 25 metres from goal and the midfielder picked his spot, zipping a low right-footed effort into the net via the foot of Forde's right-hand post.

Mario Götze might have sealed it but that man Forde was once again on hand, rushing from goal to rebuff the forward when one-on-one, and the away team pinched a draw at the death. O'Shea beat Mats Hummels to a dropping ball in the box to prod past Neuer in the 94th minute and mark his century in style.
