Germany can qualify if they win in Glasgow and the Republic of Ireland lose to Georgia in Dublin. But Scotland pushed the newly-crowned World champions close in their opening UEFA EURO 2016 Group D meeting and will hope to do even better this time around.

• The following players are a yellow card away from a ban: Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Grant Hanley and James Morrison (Scotland).

Previous meetings
• Two Thomas Müller goals secured Germany a 2-1 win at home against Scotland in the sides' opening Group D game; it was also Germany's first competitive match as world champions following their FIFA World Cup success.

• Ikechi Anya had equalised for battling Scotland, who had Charlie Mulgrew sent off in the closing stages.

• Scotland's record in 16 games against Germany is now W4 D5 L7 (W2 D3 L1 in Scotland – W2 D2 L4 away). Those meetings include two encounters at final tournaments; a 2-1 win for West Germany at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and a 2-0 win for the reunified Germany at the 1992 UEFA European Championship in Sweden.

• Current Scotland coach Gordon Strachan scored the only Scotland goal in that 1986 World Cup game.

• Germany have yet to lose in seven competitive games against Scotland. Their record in those matches is W5 D2 L0, both draws coming in Glasgow.

Form guide
• Scotland have won their last four competitive home games – including three out of three in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying – since a 2-0 loss to Belgium on 6 September 2013.

• Germany have scored nine goals without conceding in their last two Group D away games since a 2-0 defeat to Poland – their only defeat in their last 6 qualifying away games. Their last qualifying away defeat prior to that match was a 1-0 loss in Turkey in their opening UEFA EURO 2000 fixture in October 1998.
