Scotland face censure after error

The Scottish Football Association could be punished after fielding an ineligible player in Friday's qualifier against Italy.

Whittaker suspended
Hibernian FC midfield player Steven Whittaker played all 90 minutes of a thrilling 2-2 draw which also saw three dismissals. But the SFA has confirmed that Whittaker was under suspension after picking up two yellow cards against Moldova and Belarus and should not have played.

Administrative error
The SFA has blamed an administrative mistake and after apologising to their Italian counterparts and UEFA, it stated that he will not be selected for the match against Norway on Tuesday. David Taylor, chief executive of the SFA, has begun a full investigation into the matter which will be concluded this week.
