Hungary defeat
Slišković announced he was stepping down after the 3-1 home defeat by Hungary in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying on 6 September, but the executive committee of the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina refused to accept his resignation. Committee members persuaded Slišković that he should not take the blame for the Hungary reverse, which followed a 5-2 win in Malta in their opening Group C fixture, and that he must continue the work he started four years ago.
Change of heart
Commenting on his change of heart at a press conference today, the 47-year-old Slišković said: "My resignation was sincere and at the time it was the right move to make. My team didn't win both our opening matches as I had planned and promised. However, I'm glad the Executive Committee supports my work. We have a lot of work to do in the qualifiers but all is not lost." The coach will name his squad next week for the upcoming qualifiers away to Moldova on 7 October and at home to Greece four days later.
