Dabizas injury sours celebrations

Greece defender Nikos Dabizas broke an arm hours after his country's win against Ukraine.

Greece defender Nikos Dabizas broke an arm in a car accident just hours after the UEFA EURO 2004™ victory over Ukraine.

Lost control
The 1-0 success lifted Greece to the top of Group 6 but for Dabizas the night ended unhappily when he crashed his car on the coast road, in the early hours of this morning. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier. No one else was involved in the incident.

Arm operation
The 29-year-old, who was due to undergo surgery on his arm today, also sustained minor injuries to his nose and forehead. He will be out of action for around a month. A former Olympiakos Piraeus FC player, Dabizas was last week given a free transfer by Newcastle United FC, the English club he has been with since 1998.
