Gian inspires Israel to victory

Estonia 1-4 Israel Israel made a flying start to their Group 6 qualifying campaign.

Israel made a flying start to their UEFA Women's Championship qualifying Group 6 campaign with a 4-1 win in Estonia.

Jean Gian genius
Top scorer Silvia-Sima Gian led the way for Israel scoring one goal and setting up three more at the Raeküla Gümnaasiumi in Pärnu. She created Israel's first for Tamara Kochen after just eight minutes and provided the killer pass for Meital Dayan to double her side's advantage after 17 minutes.

Fourth strike
Ave Pajo managed to pull a goal back for Estonia after 33 minutes, but Gian snuffed out any hope of a revival as she restored Israel's two-goal lead with a strike one minute before the end of the first half. Gian then set Sarit Shenar up for Israel's fourth nine minutes into the second period.

'Brilliant team effort'
Israel coach Roni Schneider declared himself overjoyed with his side's efforts. "It was a brilliant team effort and I'm delighted we began our campaign with an emphatic win despite not being able to prepare like the rest of the teams," he said. Estonia are at the foot of the Group 6 table having lost both of their qualifying round games.
