The pair were omitted from the squad for last month's friendly win against Germany in Stuttgart, but are included as Trapattoni is without Juventus FC forward Fabrizio Miccoli and AS Roma captain Francesco Totti. Former AC Perugia player Miccoli is due to undergo surgery for appendicitis on Monday, while Totti will miss with Group 9 encounter with a hip injury.

Italy are in second place in the section, two points behind the Welsh going into the match at the San Siro. After the Wales game, Trapattoni's squad will travel to Belgrade to face Serbia and Montenegro in their penultimate qualifier on 10 September.
