Following the launch of the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award, created in partnership with the European Sports Media (ESM), UEFA today announced the names of the three short-listed nominees, who will run for the title of the UEFA Best Player in Europe 2010/11.

The three nominated players are, in alphabetical order; Xavi Hernández (Spain, FC Barcelona), Lionel Messi (Argentina, FC Barcelona), and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Real Madrid CF).

The jury is composed of 53 renowned sports journalists representing each of the UEFA member national associations and each of them was asked to provide a list of three best ranked players from one to three, the first one receiving 5 points, the second 3 points and the third 1 point.

The three players having received the most aggregate points in the first round of voting have been short-listed for the final round of voting which takes place in Monaco on 25 August. The journalists will then vote live, via an electronic voting system, during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw, to determine the winner amongst the three nominees.
