Things did not start promisingly for the Romanian hosts as they were held to a goalless draw by South-East Region AMA of Bulgaria – hosts and beaten finalists in the 2006/07 competition. But Oltenia recovered to beat AT Ialoveni AMA from neighbouring Moldova 4-0 in their second game, with Eugen Riosanu scoring twice either side of goals for Gabriel Petrovici and Constantin Vacaru.
Bastion Illichivski beat Ialoveni 5-1 in their opening fixture, and followed that up with a 1-1 draw against South-East Region, with Oleksandr Volchkov cancelling out Vabgel Stoyanov's opener. However, they were unable to get a grip on the final fixture with Oltenia, with goals from Costinel Mateita and Vacaru either side of half-time putting Florin Halagian's side firmly in control before Valerii Gaidarzhi pulled one back for the Ukrainian side late on.
