Kahovka-Kzeso reach their goal

The Group 5 hosts became the second team to qualify for June's UEFA Regions' Cup final tournament.

Ukraine's Kahovka-Kzeso made full use of home advantage in Group 5 to become the second team to qualify for the 2004/05 UEFA Regions' Cup final round.

Perfect record
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of Kiev Amateur, who reached the inaugural final tournament in 1999, Kahovka-Kzeso beat Moldova's Chisinau Amateur and Belarussian side Brest Amateur before a victory in the decider against Tbilisi Amateur of Georgia secured their progress to the eight-team competition in a venue to be decided next June.

Brest beaten
Tbilisi, who met Kiev in the 1999 finals, but lost all their three qualifying round games two years ago, began on a high in Kahovka's Olympiysky stadium with a 5-1 win against Brest on Sunday, who also were defeated in all their matches on their 2002/03 debut. Manuchar Tsikarishvili scored on 42 and 52 minutes to give Tbilisi a good start, and although Dzmitry Pratasav swiftly scored Brest's first ever Regions' Cup goal, Nikoloz Zedelashvili registered twice and Shalva Galegashvili was also on target for the Georgians.

Chudak scores five
But Kahovka-Kzeso were on even higher-scoring form as they overcame Chisinau 8-2. Sergey Chudak was the star with five goals after Vladimir Sinenko had put Kahovka-Kzeso ahead. Aleksey Ananichev and Viktor Bakum also found the net for Kahovka-Kzeso with Cristian Jardan and Denis Cenusa managing consolations late in each half.

Tbilisi go top
However, it was Tbilisi who led after the second set of games on Tuesday. They moved to the top by beating Chisinau 5-0. Zedelashvili claimed two first-half goals, and after Manuchar Tsikarishvili extended the advantage midway through the second period, Zedelashvili completed his hat-trick ten minutes from time and George Ositashvili was able to open his personal account.

Ananichev double
Kahovka-Kzeso were behind Tbilisi on goal difference after they defeated Brest 3-1. Yury Okul gave Kahovka-Kzeso a 13th-minute lead and Ananichev made it 2-0 on 37 minutes. Although Brest gave themselves hope ten minutes after the break through Dzmitry Trotski, they could not level and Ananichev confirmed the home victory in added time.

Chisinau consolation
Chisinau were able to claim some consolation in Thursday's final set of games as they gained their first Regions' Cup victory on their ninth attempt by a 3-1 scoreline against Brest. Romeo Alii, Vitalie Ursu and Alexandru Afteni scored Chisanu's goals in the final 27 minutes before a late Pratasav consolation.

Kahovka-Kzeso prevail
But all interest was in the decider between Kahovka-Kzeso and Tbilisi, with the Georgian side needing only a draw. But Tbilisi fell behind in the 25th minute to a Chudak goal - his mini-tournament leading sixth - and 12 minutes from time Oleg Shakilo doubled Kahovka-Kzeso's lead before two late Ananichev efforts confirmed a decisive 4-0 win

Six berths remaining
Kahovka-Kzeso join Polish Group 6 winners Malopolska Amateur in the final tournament. Group 7 is the next to be settled when it is played out in Bulgaria from 21-25 September, but starting and ending a day earlier are the two preliminary round pools in Slovenia and Romania, which will complete the lineups in intermediary round Groups 2, 3 and 8.
