Group 5: Szabolcs secure final spot

Hungarian side Szabolcs Gabona Csoport Amateur top qualifying group on home turf.

The Hungarian side Szabolcs Gabona Csoport Amateur have claimed a place in the finals of the 2002/03 UEFA Regions' Cup after taking maximum points in front of their own supporters in their Group 5 qualifying section.

Decisive match
Szabolcs pipped Israel Amateur to top place in the four-team group after defeating them 2-1 in what turned out to be the decisive match of the mini-tournament on the opening day. The other teams in the group, Chisinau Amateur of Moldova and Yugoslavia's Montenegro Amateur, also met on the first day, with Montenegro winning 2-0.

Chisinau swept aside
In their second game Szabolcs swept aside Chisinau 4-1 with two goals each from Illés and Varga. Andronache scored an 89th-minute consolation goal from the penalty spot for the Moldovans. Meanwhile, Israel beat Montenegro 3-1 with two late goals from Gabay settling matters.

Szabolcs prove their class
In the final group Illés scored another goal as Szabolcs proved their class and beat Montenegro 2-0 to make it three out of three and confirm their qualification for the finals in June 2003. Meanwhile, Chisinau were left without a point after losing 2-1 to Israel, Gabay again getting the decisive goal, in the 82nd minute.
