Group 6: Ten puts Württemberg top

Germany's Württemberg Amateur get ten goals and maximum points en route to next year's finals.

The German side Württemberg Amateur convincingly won a place in the finals of the 2002/03 UEFA Regions' Cup, scoring ten goals and conceding just one in three games to top their Group 6 qualifying section.

Stiff test
Württemberg faced their stiffest test first up and earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Polish side Malopolska Amateur who were to finish second in the group. Deligiannidis got the game's decisive goal in the sixth minute. Also on the opening day, the host side, Lithuania's Taurage Amateur, signalled their intent with a 5-0 victory over the Belarussian side Brest Amateur. Tamulis scored twice as did Dapkus.

Two penalties
In their next group game, the German team underlined their ability by beating Taurage 5-1. Two goals in two minutes just before half-time helped their cause as did being awarded two penalties one of which was tucked away by Deligiannidis for his second goal of the mini-tournament. Meanwhile, Malapolska beat Brest 1-0 with Cieplachal getting the winner.

No points Brest
In the final group games, Württemberg beat Brest 4-0 to leave the Belarussian side pointless and goalless and ensure the German team's qualification for next June's finals. In the other game, Malopolska beat Taurage 2-1 to take second place and end what had started as a promising tournament on a losing note for the host team.
