Spanish side Castilla y León AMA secured the eighth and final place in June's UEFA Regions' Cup in Croatia by winning all three matches to top Intermediary Group 4.
Javier Yepes's charges did not concede during the mini-tournament held in France between 4 and 8 April, scoring eight goals in defeating Portugal's Associação de Futebol de Braga, French outfit Ligue Atlantique de Football and San Marino. A 30th-minute penalty from Jorge Barrera earned Castilla a slender victory at Braga's expense in their first match before Antonio Ramirez, substitute Gustavo Terleira and Pablo Infante struck in the second half to defeat Atlantique 3-0. Castilla saved their best till last, though, beating San Marino 4-0 on Wednesday thanks to two goals from Mariano Gonzalez and one apiece from namesake Andres and Ramirez.
In Wednesday's other game Atlantique drew 2-2 with Braga and, although not enough to earn them a place in the 15 to 22 June finals, coach Jean-Paul Allard had cause to be upbeat. "We knew it would be a high level of play but we achieved our target," he said. "Our preparation took place during the tournament and it was far better at the end than at the beginning."
