Bohemian FC earned a creditable draw against FC Salzburg, with Joseph Ndo capitalising on a rare chance for the Irish champions to haul them level in a second half during which Marc Janko had a penalty saved.

Austrians ahead
Milan Dudić's header after 25 minutes had appeared to set the Austrian titleholders on their way, but their Dublin opponents fought manfully and were rewarded on the hour before resisting a late rally to set up a tantalising return next Wednesday. Employing prolific striker Janko on his own up front, new Salzburg coach Huub Stevens watched as his charges controlled the game from the first minute only for the rearguard of Patrick Fenlon's side to stand up to the threat.

Janko misfires
Their resilience did not dwindle even after Dudić scored following a fine corner from Dušan Švento. Salzburg started more aggressively in the second half but Janko, scorer of 39 goals in 34 league matches last season, only managed to strike the bar with a volley before goalkeeper Brian Murphy saved his penalty on 58 minutes. Almost immediately, Bohemians made them pay dearly as Ndo finished off a well-timed counterattack, Jason Byrne's header providing the assist. Louis Ngwat Mahop then hit a post late on, ensuring the clubs will adjourn to Dalymount Park all-square.
