César Santin proud to make FCK mark

"I can tell my daughter and any more kids I have that dad was top scorer at Scandinavia's biggest club," César Santin told UEFA.com after breaking new ground at FC København.

Two goals in Wednesday's 4-3 Danish Cup win against Odense BK allowed Brazilian striker César Santin to set a new mark at FC København, surpassing predecessor Dame N'Doye to become the club's all-time top scorer on 83 goals.

"It feels really good," the 32-year-old told UEFA.com. "I can tell my daughter and any kids I have in the future that dad was the top scorer at the biggest club in Scandinavia, and they will be very proud of me. It means a lot to me to be in the history of the biggest club in Scandinavia. I will never forget this."

When he joined FCK in 2008, César Santin was not even a dyed-in-the-wool goalscorer. "When I came to FCK, I was an attacking midfielder who usually played behind the striker," the former Kalmar FF man explained. "I had never really scored that many goals in my career, but I came here and started to score goals, and actually I like it.

"Because of FCK's playing concept, they believed that someone like me should play further up the pitch. We had a conversation and I agreed. So they moved me a bit forward and then I started to score."

On the bench for much of the campaign so far, César Santin has been unable to add to his tally in Europe. Even so, he hopes his side can prosper with or without him when Galatasaray AŞ come to Copenhagen this week, having won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Istanbul on matchday three.

"We have never lost a Champions League group stage game at Parken – it's good for us to keep that in mind," he added. "The fans help us a lot, so I definitely think we have a chance against Galatasaray."

The South American has announced he will leave FCK at the end of the season, and while he is in no hurry to return to Brazil – having played exclusively in Europe since arriving at Kalmar in 2004 – he admits he would love to get the chance to prove himself in his home country some day.

"I came to Europe at a young age, so nobody really knows much about me in Brazil," he said. "I want to go back and play one or two years before I finish my career just to show them what I have learned in Europe."
