Jancker to quit Bayern

German international Carsten Jancker has asked for a transfer away from FC Bayern München.

German international striker Carsten Jancker has asked for a transfer away from FC Bayern München.

World  Cup ambitions
"I have asked for permission to be sold and if I can reach an agreement with another club I am free to go," said Jancker at a press conference at Bayern’s training camp in Marbella.  "I want to preserve my chances of making it to the [FIFA] World Cup [finals in Korea/Japan] and in order to do so, I simply have to play more often," said the 27-year old who has often been confined to the bench since the arrival of Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro from SV Werder Bremen.

‘I am not angry’
"I am not angry," added Jancker who still has 18 months left of his contract. "There’s still the possibility that I might fulfil my contract. I have had a talk with my coach Ottmar Hitzfeld who says that I am just as good as Giovane Elber but that doesn’t explain why he chooses him ahead of me all the time."

Hertha move in
Hertha BSC Berlin are favourites to pick up the talented striker and Jancker confirms that he has been approached by the club. "We have established contact but we haven’t begun talks yet," said Jancker.
