Høgmo in for Hansen at Rosenborg

Rosenborg BK have unveiled Per-Mathias Høgmo as their new coach following Per Joar Hansen's departure.

Hopes dashed
The man who guided Norway's women's team to Olympic gold in 2000 before assuming control of the men's Under-21 team will replace Per Joar Hansen on a three-year contract. Hansen resigned late last night after the club's latest defeat largely put paid to hopes of a record 14th consecutive Norwegian championship.

'Something new'
"Rosenborg are down in the dumps now, but we have a great chance to create something positive," said Høgmo, who will be assisted by Bjørn Hansen. The defending champions are suffering their worst run since the 1970s, Sunday's 2-1 home loss to Lillestrøm SK leaving them eighth in the 14-strong league, 13 points behind leaders IK Start, with nine games left.

Champions League
A former coach of Tromsø IL, Høgmo faces a testing first match on Wednesday as his new side travel to Romania to tackle FC Steaua Bucuresti in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie. Rosenborg's run of 13 Norwegian titles is one short of the European record of 14, set last year by Latvia's Skonto FC.
