Adriaanse delight at Porto deal

FC Porto coach Co Adriaanse has added a further year to his contract at the Estádio do Dragão, committing to the Portuguese club until 2008.

'Very happy'
The Dutchman, who took the helm after leading AZ Alkmaar to the UEFA Cup semi-finals last season, confirmed the news on television in his homeland, and is keen to continue making his mark at the 2004 UEFA Champions League winners. "Porto have opted to extend my contract until 2008," the 58-year-old said, "something anticipated in my current contract. I am very happy at the club.

Well placed
"Playing with three central defenders is a bit unusual in Portugal and there are other things too, but overall I am delighted to be here." The move is reward for a strong start to Porto's season, with the side lying second in the Liga, two points behind leaders SC Braga. They could yet seal a place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League if they beat FC Artmedia on Matchday 6, although they are relying on FC Internazionale Milano winning at Rangers FC.
