Fred facing two months out

A hamstring injury has almost certainly sidelined Olympique Lyonnais striker Fred for the remainder of his side's UEFA Champions League group games.

Hamstring tear
Fred left the field on a stretcher during the first half of Lyon's 4-1 win against Olympique de Marseille on Sunday and scans have since revealed a tear which doctors believe will rule him out for the next six to eight weeks. The enforced rest may mean that the 22-year-old Brazilian, who has scored five times in the French top flight and and twice in the UEFA Champions League this term, will be sidelined until the new year, ruling him out of the Group E games against FC Dynamo Kyiv, Real Madrid CF and FC Steaua Bucuresti.

Malouda relief
There were also concerns over midfielder Florent Malouda, who left the Stade Vélodrome encounter with an achilles injury. However, the damage is not as bad as first feared and the French international should be back for next weekend’s league match against third-placed AS Nancy-Lorraine. The French league leaders currently top UEFA Champions League Group E with nine points from three matches and host Dynamo Kyiv on Matchday 4.
